This is a Teen Drama about a girl that committed suicide and left 13 tapes as to why she did what she did. Although they focus on a lot of the main characters such as Clay or Ani, we still see some of the stories behind the other characters. Throughout all of the seasons, Montgomery De La Cruz gets his kicks by bullying the other characters in the show and even goes as far as sexually abusing someone, just to get revenge on something the other character had no power over. Season 3 takes the first dive into what Monty’s life is really like and we get a good look at where all of the anger he displays comes from

There is not much to see, but this scene is the first the audience sees of Montgomery’s home life. Here, we get a glimpse of Monty’s father stumbling drunkenly onto the front lawn, and see him collapse with Monty trailing not so far behind, kicking his unconscious body saying, “Not so tough now, you fucking piece of shit.” He then confesses to Clay that the blood on him is his as well as his father’s, which from that we can infer that his father hit him at some point or another. Clearly, this is physical abuse, and probably from the way he spoke to Clay and Ani, there could be some verbal/emotional abuse that rides along with it. In the series in general, Monty is one of the show’s bullies. This could be an effect of his father’s behavior. When a child is abused in the home, said child tends to depict a similar abuse they are shown at home and maybe take their anger out on the situation as well. This could well be the case with Monty. Very Well Mind supports this by saying, “Children living with a father who abuses alcohol, being angry often becomes a defense mechanism. It feels more empowering to be angry at the world than to face the fear and confusion in their lives. What's more, children may not only feel angry with their father, but also with the non-alcoholic parent for not doing more to protect them” (T). This supports the fact that Monty may just be hiding behind his anger at his life by doing cruel things to other people. Although this may be what is running through Monty’s head, this should be no excuse as what he has done to his classmates, and it is still extremely wrong.
